Abstract
Parents or caregivers have the function of satisfying all those vital needs necessary for the survival and development of children from the moment they are born, because as is well known, babies are characterized by being in a situation of enormous helplessness and dependency. People have biological needs, but also social ones, because socialization is also part of biology and contributes to the formation and development of brain structures. The weight that behaviorism and psychoanalysis have had for many years has allowed emphasis to be placed on biological issues but to the detriment of social and affection needs, since it was considered that the interest related to affectivity was learned, not innate, therefore, it was not understood as a primary need. Subsequently, there were many criticisms that led to the understanding that affective relationships were a basic element for the integral development of the child. Keywords: attachment, childhood, mentalization, emotional regulation.
