Abstract

During this project we have investigated six archaeological sites with abundant and diverse rock engravings, insisting in its spatial contextualization. For three years we have followed several steps: the consultation of a wide bibliography; the accomplishment of ethnographic and toponymic surveys; the exploration of archaeological sites and its environment; and the employment of the new software. In this study we have discovered that the archaeological sites are connected by a net of traditional ways that were used by the peasants up to a few decades ago. In addition, we observe a continuity of the practice of the rock engraving. Half of the studied panels there contain libyco-berber inscriptions of brief texts, which linear division seems to obey a separation of the message in words. We indicate in addition, the existence of a different typology that we named isolated signs and on that we propose diverse explanations.
