Abstract

We will analyze a problematic grapheme from the Tunisian and Algerian Eastern Libyque alphabet (2nd century B.C. and 3rd A.D.): the sign . For this purpose, we will study its graphic equivalents in Latin and Punic inscriptions and its frequency and position in the text. The epigraphic comparison shows that the different phonetic values for this sign could came from a Punic and Libyque common phonological change. Finally, we will compare the features of this sign with the formally similar characters of the Tifinagh and El Hierro LibycoBerber alphabets
