Résumé

The wartime comedy of submarine warfare is characterised by relativising the halo of the fearsome weapon that characterises these vessels, and placing at the service of humour a story model that radiates from the characteristics of the war drama of combat under the surface of the sea. Confinement, domesticity, or genre bias are some of the resources that Operation Petticoat (Blake Edwards, 1959) appropriates to achieve comedy. This article aims to contextualize Operation Petticoat in the history of cinema, to establish its link with the historical fact and to identify its different narrative strategies and semantic resources.
